Water/Sewer Utility Information
As of October 2, 2006, water and sewer utilities are being handled by the City of Raleigh. Below are the numbers to call:

For your convenience, a drive-up utility payment drop box has been installed at Town Hall at 15 E. Fourth Street and payments are still being accepted at the Wendell Town Hall. However, all questions concerning billing, new accounts, water leaks and other water and sewer utilities issues should be directed to the numbers indicated.
House numbers 3" in height are required to be posted under a light, visible from the street before utilities will be connected.
Residential Pickup
The Town of Wendell contracts with Waste Industries to dispose of solid waste inside the corporate limits of Wendell. The solid waste fee is billed on the utility statement. Waste Industries is located in Garner at 3741 Conquest Drive, (919) 662-7100.
Waste pick-up in Wendell is split between two days. Residents who live ON AND/OR SOUTH of Third Street in Wendell will have their trash and recycling picked up on MONDAY of every week. Residents who live NORTH of Third Street will have their trash and recycling picked up on TUESDAY of every week.
To receive solid waste service, all containers should be placed at curbside after 7:00 PM on Sunday for Monday pick-up and Monday after 7:00 PM for Tuesday pick-up. However, for scenic and health reasons, containers cannot be placed at curbside earlier than 7:00 PM the day before pick-up and should not be left at curbside later than 7:00 PM the day of pick-up. If your cart is at curbside as above and your garbage is missed, call the Town Office before 4:00 p.m. on your pick-up day and we will call Waste Industries to get it picked up the next day.
In addition to the rollout containers, Waste Industries will collect up to four (4) cubic yards of additional solid waste (a small truck load). Only materials accepted by the landfill may make up the additional four (4) cubic yards of waste.
Items the Landfill Will NOT Accept
Aluminum cans, yard waste, car batteries, paint cans, car tires, construction debris, “white goods” (used home appliances), and household hazardous waste cannot be collected and landfilled by Waste Industries or the Town of Wendell.
Recycling Items
Below is the breakdown of the items Waste Industries will and will not accept in the recycling bins when picked up.
Glass
Will Accept - All food and beverage containers of any color.
Will Not Accept - Glass that is not a food or beverage container (Example: Plate Glass)
Aluminum, Tin, & Steel
Will Accept - Any soft drink, beer, and food can
Will Not Accept - Aluminum foil, pie pans, or plates
Plastics
Will Accept - All plastics #1 through #7, as long as the mouth of the container is smaller than the base.
Will Not Accept- Any other plastic containers that have contained oil, antifreeze, or other household hazardous waste material
Newspapers and Magazines
Will Accept - Newspapers and all inserts that come with news papers or magazines
Will Not Accept - Books, office paper, tissue, or phone books.
Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste consisting of anti-freeze, paint cleaners, and solvents can now be taken to Wake County’s permanent household hazardous waste collection facility located at the North Wake Landfill off Durant Road in Raleigh. The facility is open the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM unless otherwise noted. For more information contact the Wake County Waste Management Div. At 856-6186.
Other Unacceptable Material
White Goods such as washers/dryers, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, and air conditioners are accepted free of charge for recycling at the North Wake Landfill off of Durant Road in Raleigh. Commercial/ Industrial/Institutional solid waste may be disposed of at the North Wake Landfill. Disposal costs are based on the County’s landfill tipping fee. Scrap tires are also accepted at the North Wake Landfill. For more than five tires, no fee will be assessed so long as you have a North Carolina Scrap Tire Identification Form. If you do not have a form a $50.00 per ton fee will be assessed.
Yard Waste
The Town of Wendell will pickup residential yard waste. Yard waste should not be placed into the rollout containers because it will not be picked up by Waste Industries. Yard waste is a vegetative matter containing leaves, grass, limbs, trimmings, etc. and does not include the collection of land clearing debris. Residential yard waste is collected on a weekly or biweekly schedule, depending on the season of the year. The town will not collect or dispose of construction rubbish left by the builders.
Yard and leaf waste shall be kept separate from any other solid waste material and should not be placed in bags. Yard and leaf waste must be kept separate from trash, broken glass, rocks, cans, or other debris that might damage equipment. Tree and limb material must also be separated before pick-up. The limbs and logs shall be no larger than 6" in diameter.
Place all items behind the curb and where no curb exists, place the material between the roadside and the front property line. The limbs should be placed where the cut ends face the street.
If a resident is going to be placing a large amount of debris at curbside, please call the Town Office prior to placing the debris at curbside, to verify any extra costs that might have to be assessed due to extra machinery or manpower that might be needed.
